STABILIZE YOUR DOG’S SPINE

Canine Wellness Tips

Did you know one of the main muscles addressed in Canine Bodywork is the Longissimus Dorsi?

  • The Longissimus Dorsi (LD) muscle is located on either side of the spine along the lower back.  It is the strongest of three parallel columns of muscles that work together.  The LD  extends from the illium and sacrum up to the head and neck. They are the extensors of the vertebral column.

  • When  contracted bilaterally these muscles extend and stabilize the thoracic and lumbar spine.  If contracted unilaterally they will flex the thoracic and lumbar spine to the the side the muscle is contracting.

  • The transversopinalis (deep muscles of the spine) adjoined to the LD are a very complex group of short muscles extending between the vertebral pairs.

  • They extend the vertebral column when contracted bilaterally;  when contracted unilaterally, the transversopinalis  laterally flex the vertebrae and rotate the vertebral column in the cranial region.

Osteopathy Articular Balancing is very effective in maintaining your dog’s spine.

I am working along either side of the spine along the Longissimus Dorsi muscle. Osteopathy, Bodywork and Light Therapy are helpful modalities in maintaining a healthy spine.

The Osteopathic technique I am applying here helps support and stabilize the spine, addresses internal organs and assists with detoxification.
